Electoral rolls are the nearest thing Australians have to census records, and hence they are extremely important and useful for local, family and social historians.
This compendium contains the Commonwealth electoral rolls for all electoral divisions in Western Australia in 1939 - over 4,400 pages. You will find the details of about 250,000 voters who resided in Western Australia at this time, and who were entitled (and registered) to vote. Importantly, the roll includes the names of many women qualified to vote for the election of members of the Commonwealth parliament.
The electoral divisions are: Fremantle, Forrest, Kalgoorlie, Perth and Swan. Each division consists of a number of subdivisions, the number of which is quite variable across the various divisions. The locations of the subdivisions in each divisions are listed separately under the description for each of the divisions. Names of the voters are arranged alphabetically within each subdivision.
The following information is included for many (but not all) entries:
This compendium contains high quality scanned images of the original rolls, and has been bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.
