This book was compiled in 1854 by the Spalding Club and covers 360 years of history of the University of Aberdeen. The university, which is the UK's fifih oldest, began in 1495 as King's College. The college was founded by William Elphinstoun to "train doctors, teachers and clergy for the communities of nothern Scotland", and much of the college still remains today. There are over 800 pages of information and much of the earlier text is in Latin.

The appendix gives lists of chancellors, rectors, principals, canonists, civilists, mediciners, sub-principals, humanists, and professors of Divinity, Oriental Languages and Mathematics. There are lists of students from 1601-1686 as well as many other lists and names mentioned in the text, which can be searched for individual words or phrases using Adobe reader. The index is split into two parts - by name and by place - and all personal names have been anglicised.
