The Story of the Eureka Stockade produced here in facsimile, was written by John Lynch who fought at Eureka in 1854. Prior to Eureka, when the miners were drilling and maneuvering in army like formations at the Eureka Stockade, Lynch was appointed as one of the captains under Peter Lalor, the leader of the insurgents. Because of his position as captain and being trusted by the Ballaarat miners, Lynch knew well the concerns associated with Eureka. He was an intelligent and educated man, who understood the reasons for the battle and his story of Eureka is therefore both interesting and important.
