Following the practice with Khaki and Green in 1943, this book is the compilation of stories written by members of the Army which wereselected for inclusion as part of a competition. As in earlier books inthe series, they are referred to by their Army numbers but one sectionof Stand Easy actually identifies the contributors to all five books byname.

The contributed articles cover various aspects of the warfrom the soldier's perspective - The Nerve War, Medical Evacuation,Behind Japanese Lines, Killed In Action, This Was Tarakan, Song of theJungle, and Ambush are just a selection.

One section, fromBougainville to Borneo, covers the activities of the army in the finalcampaign in the south-west Pacific - the Second Australian Corps onBougainville, Fifth Australian Division in New Britain, SixthAustralian Division at Aitape-Wewak, Ninth Australian Division atTarakan and North-West Borneo, Seventh Australian Division atBalikpapan, The Surrender of the Japanese.

In the Toko-Darara area
Onthe 24th of January, the 25th Battalion relieved the 47th on the TaveraRiver. The same day a platoon from "D" Company landed at Motupena Pointand set off down the coast towards Toko. By the 3rd of February theplatoon had closed to within half a mile of Toko and established itselfon a lagoon. That day another platoon landed from a barge and theforce, carrying the sandbar at the point of the bayonet, swept into thearea which was to become the base for divisional operations in southernBougainville.

As with earlier books in the series there isan excellent selection of colour and black and white photographs andsketches highlighting people and places. It is a valuable resource anda great read for all interested in military history.
