Members Research Directory 2006

In 1990 the Scottish Ancestry Group of The Genealogical Society of Victoria Inc was formed by a few members who had a common interest in their Scottish heritage, and in that same year the Group produced a members' research directory. Ten years later the directory format was expanded and a new version was published as part the Scottish Ancestry Group's anniversary celebrations. As the Group has grown new editions have been produced at 3 year intervals, with this latest edition having 890 surnames being researched by 90 subscribers. Each contributor to this directory is a subscriber to`Thistle", the newsletter of the Scottish Ancestry Group.

Entries are not limited to research in Scotland only. The nineteenth century, in oarticular, was a time of great movement when many of our Scottish ancestors journeyed throughout Britain in search of work, or embarked on the emigrant ships to distant colonies. Contributors to the directory were asked to submit their research interests as either reflecting a Scottish family origin or having a Scottish connection with some portion of the research.

Contributors' addresses are correct at date of entry only. Some entries have included an email address. Should you wish to contact a contributor, please correspond directly to that person and remember when writing to enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope for a reply. Such correspondence should not be directed to the Scottish Ancestry Group.

Contributors should advise the Scottish Ancestry Group of any mistakes in their own entry, and any errata will be published in Thistle.
