Over 140 superb photographs by Geoff Roberts present an affectionate portrait that ranges widely over the towns and villages of the Vale of Taunton
The town and vale Taunton the hub of Somerset has a rich and varied history. For centuries it was one of the most important market centres in the South West. Since the 1930s it has been home to the county's government but for much longer the home of county cricket and of the county regiment, which had its headquarters here with striking barrack buildings. Away from Taunton, the Vale (as well as the nearby Quantocks and Levels), offers different but equally powerful landscapes where towns and villages often recall a distant past but which are flourishing in the new millennium from Wellington, Wiveliscombe and Milverton to North Curry, Stoke St Gregory and Burrowbridge.
With an introduction from County Historian Dr Robert Dunning and supported by an informative text, Geoff Roberts presents in more than 140 stunning images an affectionate portrait that ranges widely over the towns and villages of the Vale of Taunton.
