This is a work that evolved rather than especially conceived. It emerged from an effort to identify the fathers of particular children listed in Norfolk Island's 1805 Census. It was the practice, until 1810 for the Island's records to mention children of convicts by their mother's surname, rather than their father's. In most instances that does help the researcher identify the mother but, unfortunately, does not provide any assistance in locating people later in life.
