Electoral rolls are the nearest thing Australians have to census records, and hence they are extremely important and useful for local, family and social historians.

This compendium contains the state electoral rolls for all New South Wales districts for 1913 - almost 17,000 pages. Apart from the main roll some districts also have supplemental rolls. You will find the details of almost 1 million voters who resided in New South Wales at this time who were entitled (and registered) to vote. Importantly, the roll includes the names of many women qualified to vote for the election of members of the state parliament.

The electoral districts in 1913 were:

  • Volume 1 - Albury, Alexandria, Allowrie, Annandale, Armidale, and Ashburnham
  • Volume 2 - Ashfield, Balmain, Bathurst, Bega, Belmore, and Bingara
  • Volume 3 - Bondi, Botany, Burrangong, Burwood, Byron, and Camden
  • Volume 4 - Camperdown, Canterbury, Castlereagh, Cessnock, and Clarence
  • Volume 5 - Cobar, Cootamundra, Corowa, Darling Harbour, Darlinghurst, and Drummoyne
  • Volume 6 - Dulwich Hill, Durham, Enmore, Glebe, and Gloucester
  • Volume 7 - Gordon, Gough, Goulburn, Granville, and Gwydir
  • Volume 8 - Hartley, Hastings and Macleay, Hawkesbury, Hurstville, Kahibah, and King
  • Volume 9 - Lachlan, Leichhardt, Lismore, Liverpool Plains, and Lyndhurst
  • Volume 10 - Macquarie, Maitland, Marrickville, Middle Harbour, Monaro, and Mosman
  • Volume 11 - Mudgee, Murray, Murrumbidgee, Namoi, Newcastle, and Newtown
  • Volume 12 - Orange, Paddington, Parramatta, Petersham, Phillip, and Raleigh
  • Volume 13 - Randwick, Redfern, Rozelle, Ryde, and Singleton
  • Volume 14 - St George, St Leonards, Sturt, Surry Hills, Tamworth, and Tenterfield
  • Volume 15 - Upper Hunter, Wagga Wagga, Wallsend, Waverley, Wickham, and Willoughby
  • Volume 16 - Willyama, Wollondilly, Wollongong, Woollahra, and Yass

Each volume is available separately

Each district consists of a number of polling-places, the number of which is quite variable across the various districts. The locations of the polling places in each district are listed under the description for each of the volumes.

Electors are arranged alphabetically within each polling-place. The following information is included for each person:

  • No. On roll
  • Surname of each elector
  • Christian name of each elector at full length
  • Sex
  • Residence
  • Occupation
  • State District and Polling-place

This CD contains high quality scanned images of the original rolls, and has been bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.
