Another in the 'Gibson' guide series
This little booklet is a directory of holdings in the British Isles of Militia Lists and Musters 1757-1876. It is read in county order.
By Jeremy Gibson and Mervyn Medlycott. In 1757, Parliament ordered the re-establishment of militia regiments in English counties. Parishes were required to provide a fixed number of men to serve as militiamen. This necessarily involved listing the men available; the muster lists that resulted are listed in this Gibson guide. These are invaluable sources for family historians, worthy of consultation by anyone tracing genealogy in this period. 4th ed. Publ. 2000
