About the author

Robin Smith, a town planner for several English local authorities in the 1950s and '60s, became burgh planner for Kirkcaldy from 1971, and later a senior lecturer in town planning at Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh College of Art. His retirement activities include being planning adviser to Kirkcaldy Civic Society and a trustee of Fife Historic Buildings Trust.
