History of the Lockwood Cemetery

The new Lockwood Township was gazetted for approval on 12th July 1853. It was situated at Bullock Creek on the road from Melbourne to the Lower Loddon and Swan Hill. Source 1853 Vol 1 page 996 Government Gazette.

The Lieutenant Governor has been pleased with the advice of the Executive Council to appoint:

    Mr Martin Butler SNR
    Mr Robert McGlashan
    Mr John Clarkson
    Mr Henry Page Saunders
    Mr James Jones

to be Trustees of the Public Cemetery near Lockwood in the District of Sandhurst established under the Provisions of the Act of Council 17, Victoria No.12

Lockwood is 14km south of Bendigo, near the road intersect of the Bendigo / Maryborough Rd and Calder Alternative Hwy. The Lockwood Cemetery is located on Cemetery Road 1 km south of Lockwood. It is a small cemetery in a beautiful bush setting situated on 9 acres of land.
