Product Description

Book

Events that have taken place recently have resulted in an unprecedented rise in interest in tracing the careers of soldiers who fought in World War I. These include the 60th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme in 1996, together with the release of the officers' persona; documents in the same year; the 70th anniversary of the end of the Great War in 1998 and the ongoing release of soldiers' documents since then.

The most important thing to know when conducting such a search is the regiment of corps in which the soldier served, but so often, this is not known. However clues in photographs certainly give vital clues to this. Things such as collar badges, or cap badges, arm, rank or even particular items of individual regimental dress are all useful to finding out this kind of information.

The aim of this book, which is intended to be a companion to the three books on World War One Ancestry by Norman Holding, is to draw together in one volume as many as possible of the various badges and devices used during that conflict, and so help the reader to ascertain the unit in which the ancestor served.
