Dr Martin Wilcox is a research fellow at the University of Greenwich and an expert on the history of the British fishing industry. He has made a particular study of apprenticeship in the industry during the nineteenth century and has published a number of articles on British trawl fisheries. Currently he is researching the victualling system of the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. He is also working on a long-term project focusing on training in the British mercantile marine in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
