Product Description

Book

When searching for records of particular individuals in original documents or indexes most researchers would be familiar with an Elizabeth appearing as Betty or Bessy. They may be less familiar with it appearing as Tissy or Veta and there are at least 230 other ways that Elizabeth has been recorded. The primary aim of this publication has been to cover the 17th to 19th century usage when, due to limited literacy, the written name adopted many forms. The coverage is for the English speaking world of that period together with the commoner Welsh, Irish and Scottish links.

The usage of names has been derived from two main sources. First the 2% sample of the United Kingdom 1851 census and secondly the, mainly unpublished records of myself and individual researchers noted in the acknowledgements. These records comprise some 700,000 usages.
