The purpose of this book is to act as a ready reference source in which all genealogists researching in England and Wales will be able to find definitions of terms, and pointers to the information they seek. The emphasis here has been on the importance of books and, to a lesser extent, the internet, in genealogical research. Archives are obviously important, but too often they are consulted first, whereas they should be consulted last.
