DVD for computer record

The material on this DVD represents the nearest Australian database to a census at the start of the 20th century. It covers the earliest surviving electoral roll microfilmed: NSW 1903; Tasmania 1903; Victoria 1903; Queensland 1903 (transcribed by QFHS); Western Australia 1901; and South Australia 1909 (excluded divisions of Burra, Flinders, Frome and Newcastle whose rolls are not extant).

It contains the details of approximately 1,800,000 voters. It is a re-release of the material previously published by the AIGS in two parts and titles Early Australian Electoral Rolls. All names are now in a single index, with searching enhanced by use of QFHSdatasearch, a generic interface developed by the QFHS for searching genealogy databases. The DVD also includes maps of divisional boundaries for all states except SA., with maps linked to the search results, and two tables within the database of enrolment numbers by division and subdivision.

The DVD will be an invaluable aid to genealogists, historians, sociologists, behavioural scientists and other academics. Typical searches would be: a search on a name to find that missing ancestor who may have followed the 'gold rush'; a search by first name and occupation if a female's married name is not known; and a social historians search to see a 'snapshot' of an electoral area.

System requirements: PC with DVD reader and Windows operating system; 1GB RAM recommended; 1 GB HD space.
