The Home Office recorded persons charges with indictable offences in England and Wales between 1805 and 1892 in the series of registers now held at the PRO. These are now being indexed. Full information from the registers is provided: names, aliases, court, offence and sentence/acquittal; also a variety of statistics showing numbers of (alleged) offenders and ratios within the population. Around 35% of those recorded were not actually guilty. Currently the about 77,000 records have been indexed.
