Product Description

Book

On 20th March 1902 the people of Victoria were shocked to read in their newspapers that there had been a major disaster at a mine just outside Ballarat in which a number of miners were trapped underground in the flooded workings.

It is now 100 years since the disaster, and the tragic and dramatic events of those few weeks have largely faded from memory. This book is, amongst other things, an attempt to correct that, to bring the story and the people involved back to life. It is also a story about the great gold mining industry that was in many ways the foundation of Victoria's development in the nineteenth century.

A4, 58 pages with index and contains some photographs.
