This is a pioneering cemetery and is still in use today and this CD tells the story in both words and photographs.
There are over 3200 individual headstones photographed with many having two or more photographs to help describe them better.
There are over 8000 names which can be searched and the photographs are of a resolution so they can be printed down if required.
The location of the Cemetery is shown on a detailed map and maps of the Cemetery as it is today and as it was in 1855 can also be printed down.
The story of this cemetery is the story of Bendigo itself, from a settlement under canvas to the world's richest gold-field and finally to the modern city it has become.
This White Hills Historic Cemetery was also known as the Junction Cemetery.
In 1854 it was officially opened, however it had been used as a cemetery well before this date. Once gold was discovered at the seven White Hills, the area was inundated with optimistic diggers.
Locals within the White Hills area, including the Irish from Back Creek, the Cornish from Long Gully and the Chinese from the Chinese settlement then claimed the site as a cemetery to bury their dead.
This is the first in a series of CDs of monumental inscriptions from Historic Cemeteries of the mining areas of Australia which will follow soon.
