This volume contains descriptions of just over 100 villages written by the local members of Bedfordshire County Federation of Women's Institutes. Their entries record the history, architecture, atmosphere, anecdotes, people and events that have shaped each village making it different from its neighbours.

Complementing the text are 50 full colour photographs taken by well known local author and photographer Dennis Bidwell. They show Bedfordshire at its best in all seasons and demonstrate the appeal of its village and countryside in the 21st century.
