Dedicated to the memory of Andrea Ferrari and the pioneers of Hepburn.
Andrea Ferrari was born in 1836 at Semione in the Ticino region of Switzerland. He went to school there until the age of seventeen. In 1858, at the age of 21 years, Andrea sailed across the ocean to Australia on the vessel Invincible. Andrea Ferrari died in Daylesford in 1903. Some time before his death he wrote a thirteen page history of the town that he chose for this home. As there are few histories relating to Daylesford and District this is remarkable, but even more tantalising is the fact that the last three pages are written in a different hand and mention events after Andrea's death. It is assumed that his son, Andrew, continued in his father's tradition. Andrea probably wrote his Hepburn reminiscences near the end of his life, with his son completing the history after 1906.
