More than 13,000 pupils are recorded in this book which stretches to over 500 pages.

The roll was published by the Grammar School Former Pupils' Club and is split into three sections: 1795-1863; 1863-1919; 1919 onwards.

The first list (1765-1863) records the name and years of study. The second section (1863-1919), which takes up the majority of the book, has annotated records which typically include full name, years of study, father's names and address, and biographical information - later education, employment, military service, date and place of death.

Those records after 1919 give the name, year of entry, father's name and address, and date of birth. The appendix lists all pupils from 1863 of whom orders of chivalry were conferred. There is also a transcript of all names mentioned on the school's WWI war memorial. (Published in 1923)
