GenMap UK

Where did your ancestors live?

Version 2.GenMap UK makes it easy to compile maps of historical or genealogical data relating to the British Isles. The program includes a large gazetteer of British places (with many synonyms based on historical usage), so you don't have to know their locations in advance - GenMap does most of the work for you.

The program features two main styles of mapping, Dot-Distribution and County-Floodfill. The program can be used for many historical mapping projects, such as plotting the distribution of a surname. Main Features Default screen display consists of a data table (list of placenames & attributes), with the current map displayed alongside. Easy-to-use pan within scrollable window, and single-click zoom.Custom zoom in 1% increments up to 32 times original size.

Full coastline and historic county-boundary information supplied for England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Complete control over colours & line-widths for land, sea, state and county boundaries.

Data table can be viewed in a number of different sequences; records can be added, edited and deleted. Mapping symbols can be sized according to "number of occurrences", and colour-coded according to date ranges. Import filters supplied for dBase III (DBF) and GEDCOM files (import from files created by LDS Companion or its predecessor IGIREAD is supported directly). The database program Custodian can generate files that are ideally suited for import into GenMap.

Supplied placename gazetteer can be viewed and new entries added. Title and Key can be added to printed page. Can add county name labels in choice of formats. Full control over margins and title/key placement on printed pages, with facility to crop etc. Page preview and printing facilities, with Windows printer support.
